Even you can make Video Games

It’s a long held belief that making games is hard. Well, it is, but not for reasons you may think. The time and dedication needed is the actual hard part - chipping away at a large scoped game can certainly be exhausting in its own right. But the actual coding and asset creation can be quite easy if you utilize the proper tools!

Heya! I’m Chris, an Artist, Animator and Game Developer with over 10 years of experience. I specialize in full-suite production of web games, and smaller indie titles for both mobile and desktops. And this is my first blog - where I’ll show you ways to create games the easy way, as well as devlogs, freelancing tips, and just a splattering of what’s in my head.

I primarily use Construct 3 these days, and work with a variety of 2D graphics and animation programs. Affinity Designer is a great starting tool to get some basic assets create No tablet or drawing skills necessary! But in reality you can use any art software you’d like.

Affinity 2 is a competitor of Adobe, the Affinity Suite is a one-time payment software - I highly recommend! While Construct 3 requires a subscription, my first tutorials will utilize the free unlimited free trial usage. Alternatives such as Gdevelop are free, but seem to becoming bloated with AI these days. Your choice, the priniciples and logic flows are quite similar.

These are some assets I created many years ago… while still learnings the ins and outs of vector art. It’s basic but still earned me a living!

We’ll start slow with simple coding concepts, as Construct 3 is a Low-Code game engine and uses a type of visual scripting - despite its “no code” advertising you will need to learn some basics!

Looking forward to where this blog goes!
